We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Multiple Subjects Tutor to work with Pre-K through K-5 students in the East Bay in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Due to COVID-19, many parents are forming learning pods or microschools, and they are looking for pod tutors/pod teachers/microschool tutors/microschool teachers to come to their homes to assist their children with online school and enrichment. Outdoor tutoring takes place at student homes, such as on the student's patio or deck, with mask wearing, 6 ft. physical distancing, and other health and safety measures in place. Online opportunities are available, but this is not an online-only position.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in multiple subjects for children in grades Pre-K, TK, and K-5

  • Travel to a maximum of two student homes or other outdoor locations for one learning pod in the East Bay, following health and safety requirements, and subject to modification as health orders permit

  • Tutor students online

  • Assist students in mastering measurable goals in the following areas:

    • Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (ELA)

    • Common Core State Standards for Mathematics

  • Provide educational assistance during the synchronous and asynchronous distance learning schedule set by the student's school

  • Tutor in ELA applied to multiple subjects, such as informational text in science and social studies

  • Teach and facilitate enrichment, extracurricular, and recreational activities, such as arts and crafts, dramatic play, science projects, nature walks, interactive games, STEAM projects, and gross motor activities

  • Provide executive function coaching (teaching children self-regulation, organization, time-management, etc.)

  • Help children complete schoolwork and homework, checking to ensure that they have completed and turned in all of their schoolwork and homework by due dates

  • Provide supplemental learning to facilitate mastery of subject matter

  • Provide behavior management based on principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), including positive reinforcement

  • Create positive reinforcement based on student preferences and choices

  • Supervise children on breaks in their online school schedules

  • Facilitate child-centered/student-centered, naturalistic, incidental, and play-based teaching and learning opportunities

  • Create both structured and naturalistic learning opportunities

  • Communicate student progress with children’s parents/guardians and teachers where applicable

  • Record accurate, in vivo objective data on student progress

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • If working in Contra Costa County, subject to modification in accordance with health orders, follow Health Officer Order No. HO-COVID19-18 requiring that no individual may be a member of more than one Social Bubble, including a Children's Extracurricular Activity Unit, per three-week period

  • If working in Alameda County, subject to modification in accordance with health orders, follow Health Officer Order Order No. 20-14c (effective August 28, 2020) requiring that no individual may be a member of more than one Social Bubble or work with more than two Youth Extracurricular Activity Units per three-week period

Required Qualifications:

  • Provide proof of your high school diploma or highest degree

  • Provide your academic transcript (unofficial transcript is permitted); must be in good standing

  • Demonstrate command of American English phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics

  • Minimum of one year experience teaching or tutoring 

  • Experience teaching or tutoring K-3 students 

  • Experience teaching or tutoring culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse learners

  • Experience with behavior management

  • Reliable transportation to student locations in cities in the East Bay in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties (such as Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, San Leandro, Castro Valley, Dublin, Walnut Creek, Martinez, etc.) (applications are set to auto-rejection without this requirement)

  • Availability at least four days per week Monday through Friday

  • Pass a DOJ and FBI background check

  • Provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result before providing in-person tutoring

  • Experience teaching or tutoring students with disabilities or speech and language delays

  • Excellent ability to break concepts down into simple and easy steps

  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a tutoring team

  • Proficient with Google's G Suite products (Google Drive, Google Meet, Google Calendar, etc.) and quick to learn technology

Classification: Non-exempt employee

Compensation: $19-$29/hour DOE
