We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, dynamic and creative Multiple Subjects Tutor to work with students in the East Bay in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Only applicants residing in the East Bay will be considered.

​

Current tutor openings are seasonal for the Summer 2025 season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:​

​

- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in multiple subjects for children in grades K-6 and rising K-6th graders.

- Travel to student homes or outdoor locations for tutoring in person in the East Bay, following health and safety requirements

- Tutor students online as needed

- Assist students in mastering measurable goals in the following areas:

  • Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (ELA)

  • Common Core State Standards for Mathematics

  • Executive functioning skills applied to academics

- Tutor in ELA applied to multiple subjects, such as informational text in science and social studies

- Facilitate educational enrichment activities, such as gross motor physical play and art

- Provide executive function coaching for academics (teaching children self-regulation, organization, time-management, etc.)

- Help children complete academic work with increasing independence

- Provide behavior management based on principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), including prompting and positive reinforcement based on student preferences and choices

- Facilitate emergent curriculum and child-centered/student-centered, experiential, incidental, and play-based teaching and learning opportunities

- Create both structured and incidental learning opportunities

- Organize the tutoring environment to promote productive learning

- Implement strategies for student IEP goals where applicable to academics

- Monitor student performance and facilitate progress from baseline to mastery, generalization, and maintenance of skills

- Communicate student progress with children’s parents/guardians and teachers where applicable

- Record accurate, objective data in real time during sessions

- Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICIATIONS:

 

Required Education

 

- Provide proof of your high school diploma or highest degree

- Provide your academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts are permitted); must be in good standing

- Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA

​

Required Experience

​

- Minimum 12 months of experience teaching or tutoring academic English language arts and mathematics to elementary school age students in grades K-5 or K-6 (applications are automatically rejected without this requirement)

- Experience teaching/tutoring and leading children in person, both one-on-one and in groups

- Experience teaching or tutoring culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse learners, including students with disabilities

- Experience teaching or tutoring students with widely diverse abilities, including giftedness, disabilities (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language delays), and English Language Learners (ELL)

- Experience teaching/facilitating/leading extracurricular enrichment activities for grades K-5 or K-6

- Experience with implementing effective and appropriate behavior management for elementary school aged children

- Experience with selecting, creating, and implementing age-appropriate, grade-appropriate, developmentally appropriate activities for grades K-6, ages 5-11

Required Skills

 

- Demonstrate command of American English phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics

- Demonstrate familiarity with the Common Core State Standards for grades K-6

- Enthusiastic and passionate about inspiring students to achieve their full potential in school and in life

- Energetic, creative, adaptable, dynamic, fun and engaging teaching style

- Kind, caring, compassionate, and patient with learners of all skill levels

- Demonstrate care for children and a desire to help the whole child learn and grow in enjoyable ways, in addition to academic subject-matter competence

- Eagerness and openness to continually learn and develop your skillset, no matter how extensive or minimal your experience

- Excellent ability to break concepts down into simple and easy steps

- Excellent time-management and organizational skills

- Outstanding oral and written communication skills

- Proficient with Google Workspace products (Google Drive, Google Meet, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, etc.) and quick to learn technology

Other Requirements

 

- Pass a DOJ and FBI background check

- Provide proof of current COVID-19 vaccination obtained not more than 12 months before the date of hire, or obtain a religious or medical exemption

- Proof of tuberculosis (TB) clearance

- Provide proof of a valid California driver's license and proof of auto insurance for your own vehicle

- Reliable transportation to student locations in cities in the East Bay in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in and near Berkeley, CA and Pleasanton, CA

LOCATION: East Bay in multiple varied cities in Alameda County and Contra Costa County and online, but this is not an online-only position

​

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt employee, part-time, temporary, seasonal (summer 2025)

​

Compensation: $20-$28/hour DOE

​​

Hours: Part-time; for the summer, students are available anywhere from Mondays to Fridays 8:00 AM-7:30 PM and Saturdays 9:00 AM-6:30 PM. In the school year, most students are available Mondays to Fridays in afternoons and evenings only (3:00 PM-7:30 PM) and Saturdays 9:00 AM-6:30 PM.
